Welcome to TURATH, a touch from the past with a modern twist.
Since 2021, Turath has been dedicated to preserving and celebrating Palestinian and Arabic culture by blending its timeless traditions with contemporary fashion. Our journey began with a vision to connect people to the beauty of their roots while making these cultural treasures accessible and wearable in everyday life.
About Turath
Turath — meaning heritage in Arabic — is a Canadian fashion brand born in British Columbia in 2021 with one purpose: to keep culture alive through the clothes we wear. Every stitch, every embroidered motif, every keffiyeh pattern carries the weight of a story, a people, and a land.
We don't just make clothing. We make conversation starters. We make heirlooms. We make wearable bridges between where we come from and where we stand today.
Our Story
Turath was founded on a simple but powerful belief — that fashion can be an act of preservation. At a time when cultures are often reduced to trends, we chose to go deeper. We design every piece in-house, drawing on the rich visual language of Arabic heritage, from the intricate cross-stitch artistry of Tatreez to the iconic patterns of the keffiyeh.
Our work is handcrafted. Each embroidered piece is created one by one through a meticulous process of digitizing, hooping, single-needle embroidery, cleaning, tagging, and finishing. No shortcuts. No mass production. Just intention.
Turath is proud to collaborate with Palestinian refugee women on production — turning fashion into livelihood, and craft into dignity
Meet Mona Al Kurdi — Founder & Designer
Mona Al Kurdi is the heart behind Turath. A Palestinian-Canadian designer based in British Columbia, Mona launched the brand in 2021 with the vision of creating a space where Arabic heritage isn't just remembered — it's worn with pride.
Mona designs every Turath collection in-house, infusing contemporary silhouettes with traditional motifs — Tatreez embroidery on denim jackets, shimagh-inspired vests, toques and scarves, and keffiyehs made in Palestine and finished by hand in BC. Her work is a love letter to her roots and a declaration that cultural identity belongs on the runway, not just in memory.
In 2026, Turath was honoured with the Canadian Choice Award, a recognition of the brand's commitment to quality, community, and cultural storytelling.
Beyond fashion, Mona carries a bigger dream: to one day launch a non-profit that creates employment opportunities in design and textiles for Palestinian and other refugee women — because empowerment and artistry should never be in short supply.
